Description: Fast growing, nitrogen fixing tree with grey-white bark that can grow up to 100′ tall.

Leaves: Altering compound leaves with small paired oblong leaflets.

Flower: Small creamy white flowers that are slightly fragrant and grow in clusters.

Fruit: 4″-5″ long pods. Young pods are green and turn brown and split open when mature. One pod has 15-20 dark brown, flat, bean shaped seeds that are about 1/4″long.

Impact: Outcompetes native plants because it grows so quickly. Albizia is nitrogen fixing which is normally good, but it can be detrimental to native forests. Native plants are used to low amounts of nitrogen so adding more nitrogen would only help the growth of more invasive plants. This tree has very fragile wood that leads to falling limbs which can be very hazardous and cause a lot of damage to houses, power lines, and roads.
