About Hala Fest
The event serves as a platform to bring our island community together to celebrate hala, an incredible native plant deeply rooted in both cultural and ecological importance. Additionally, the festival provides an opportunity for local artisans, cultural practitioners, small businesses, and organizations to showcase their work, fostering both community cohesion and economic growth. This free, ʻohana-friendly event is open to everyone interested in nurturing a deeper connection to place and sharing in the collective kuleana of mālama ʻāina, or caring for the land. The Hala Festival is a collaborative effort between the Big Island Invasive Species Committee and Pōhaku Pelemaka.
